So my dear friend, Melanie, convinced me to join NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this year and I'll be honest and say I'm having a blast. So as I write my first blog, I am also working on my first 'NaNo'.
The aim of NaNo is to write a 50 000 word novel (or more) during the month of November. Now, those who know me, I have been working on a novel for something crazy like 10 years, and that novel hasn't even reached 50 000 words! I thought that this was absolutely NUTS trying to write a 50 000 word novel in a month! BUT I am happy to say that I am at 35 000 words already and only half way through the month! I might just succeed with my NaNo novel (if my story line is long enough to make it that long.)
So what is the novel about? Since I am a CSI addict (yes I am admitting that out loud) I decided to create a novel on CSI Greg Taylor. Greg's father is murdered when he is 15. The fact the homicide police can not find his father's murderer inspires him to become a CSI and solve other crimes. Ten years after his father's murder, Greg is on the case to find a missing baby as the kidnapper leaves a trail of victims along the way. Thinking he might have a breakthrough by finding blood on a broken window, Greg is thrown into confusion as he is taken off the case. The blood from the window is an 87% DNA match to his. Being somehow related to the killer/kidnapper he is no longer allowed to work on the case. As Greg starts doing research on his family, he finds hidden evidence that shows his parents were NOT his parents.
So that is kind of the storyline. I'm actually looking forward to finishing this novel, unlike my first attempt, and even maybe writing a second book next year for NaNo.
Regards,
JR.
